Those of you who have read my book may remember a young Ukrainian woman called Ania. She was working in her home town as a teacher and entrepreneur when the Russians invaded. Although initially hesitant about leaving, she was eventually persuaded to flee for the safety of a neighbouring country. After a dramatic journey she landed up in Switzerland and made contact with a language school to see if they needed English teachers. That language school was run by a contact of mine; he advised Ania that it would be difficult to get a job in Geneva as she didn’t speak French. He suggested that she would be better off in the UK and he gave her my details. Long story short, she came to live in my home village of Ombersley and we became friends. Fast forward to today and she is in the process of translating my book into Ukrainian!
